{"id":27909,"date":"2020-09-15T15:42:17","date_gmt":"2020-09-15T13:42:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/electriciens-sans-frontieres.org\/?p=27909"},"modified":"2020-11-16T16:19:14","modified_gmt":"2020-11-16T15:19:14","slug":"emergency-in-lebanon-update-on-our-actions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.electriciens-sans-frontieres.org\/en\/news\/emergency-in-lebanon-update-on-our-actions\/","title":{"rendered":"Emergency in Lebanon: update on our actions"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column][easy-social-share buttons=&#8221;facebook,twitter,linkedin&#8221;][vc_column_text]<b>After the catastrophic double explosion last 4th August in the port area of Beirut in Lebanon, <strong>Electriciens sans fronti\u00e8res is mobilised to respond to the urgent electrical needs.<\/strong><\/b>[\/vc_column_text][vc_custom_heading text=&#8221;Access to electricity is vital in emergency and post emergency situations&#8221; use_theme_fonts=&#8221;yes&#8221;][vc_column_text]Blown homes, devastated hospitals, weakened health system&#8230; Inhabitants and NGOs must be well organised on the spot because some of the areas devastated by the explosion only have 3 hours of electricity per day.<\/p>\n<p>\u279c More than 4 tonnes of electrical equipment will be used to secure electrical installations in homes that are being rehabilitated.<\/p>\n<p>Electriciens sans fronti\u00e8res works in cooperation with local actors, in particular the Lebanese Red Cross, the Lebanese Secours Populaire and Beit el Baraka. This collaboration is essential for the identification of priority needs within households but also for health centres, hospitals and for other NGOs.[\/vc_column_text][vc_masonry_media_grid element_width=&#8221;6&#8243; grid_id=&#8221;vc_gid:1605526150826-5a751bbde59fa68e6b0f9c423c779175-4&#8243; include=&#8221;27916,27918&#8243;][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_custom_heading text=&#8221;A team of Electriciens sans fronti\u00e8res on site&#8221; font_container=&#8221;tag:h3|text_align:left&#8221; use_theme_fonts=&#8221;yes&#8221;][vc_column_text]The team arrived Beirut on September 7th, but it was not able to intervene immediately. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic sanitary conditions, the team members remained confined for 2 days.<\/p>\n<p>Today, a first distribution of individual solar lamps has been made to people that are on their own and in precarious situations. These lamps meet multiple needs: home lighting, travelling in the evening and at night, and even communication because they offer the possibility of charging a mobile phone.<\/p>\n<p>\u279c A total of <strong>500 lamps will be distributed<\/strong> on site also both for people in need and nursing staff.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u279c The mission is immense<\/strong>: we are also working on providing photovoltaic power to around ten educational and training establishments with the support of ADEME and the EDF Group foundation.[\/vc_column_text]<div class=\"esf-quote\">\n\t<div class=\"esf-quote-content\">\n\t\t<p id=\"before-line\">\"<\/p>\n\t\t<span>The mission continues. We are now working to identify the needs of other NGOs working on the emergency and hospitals. Once again, the response will be an emergency electrical solution.
