It caused the collapse of many buildings, houses, health care centers as well as floods and major power cuts. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Cyclone Batsirai also devastated crops. Heavy rains and wind gusts of up to 240km\/h first hit the East coast of the island, before moving inland, causing rivers to overflow into the rice fields.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>To date, more than 70,000 people have been displaced, 125,000 people have been affected and about 100 people have lost their lives. <\/strong>[\/vc_column_text][vc_custom_heading text=&#8221;THE DISTRICT OF MANANJARY, LARGELY DESTROYED BY THE PASSAGE OF CYCLONE BATSIRAI&#8221; font_container=&#8221;tag:h3|text_align:left&#8221;][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;2\/3&#8243;]<div class=\"esf-quote\">\n\t<div class=\"esf-quote-content\">\n\t\t<p id=\"before-line\">\"<\/p>\n\t\t<span><strong><em>The district of Mananjary was destroyed to 80%! The hospital resisted well, however, following the diagnosis made by technicians sent on site, it turns out that the batteries were impacted by the rain although they were in a sheltered room and that this destroyed the regulator of the electrical installation.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><span id=\"after-line\">\"<\/span>\n\t<\/div>\n\t<div class=\"esf-quote-signature\">\n\t\t<span><em>Father Jean-Yves Lhomme, director of the Sainte-Anne hospital<\/em><\/span>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div>[\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;1\/3&#8243;][vc_empty_space][vc_empty_space][vc_single_image image=&#8221;32123&#8243;][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_column_text]On February 22, only two weeks after this tragic event, <strong>cyclone Emnati<\/strong> hit the island of Madagascar again: no casualties were reported, but the bad weather made it difficult for rescue services to reach the most sensitive areas.[\/vc_column_text][vc_custom_heading text=&#8221;A WEAKENED ELECTRICAL SYSTEM&#8221; font_container=&#8221;tag:h3|text_align:left&#8221;][vc_column_text]<strong>The funds raised will allow us to support the Sainte-Anne hospital<\/strong>, located in the district of Mananjary, where Electriciens sans fronti\u00e8res teams have already been mobilized in the past to electrify the building.[\/vc_column_text][vc_custom_heading text=&#8221;OUR INTERVENTION&#8221; font_container=&#8221;tag:h3|text_align:left&#8221;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Restore the electricity in a part of the building deteriorated by the cyclone.<\/li>\n<li>Replace the damaged regulators.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text]<div class=\"esf-quote\">\n\t<div class=\"esf-quote-content\">\n\t\t<p id=\"before-line\">\"<\/p>\n\t\t<span><strong><em>The emergency is to replace the defective regulators and to get the photovoltaic generator back into operation very quickly, as the hospital cannot operate permanently on the existing electrical generators.<\/em><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><span id=\"after-line\">\"<\/span>\n\t<\/div>\n\t<div class=\"esf-quote-signature\">\n\t\t<span>Thierry, project correspondent at Electriciens sans fronti\u00e8res<\/span>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div>[vc_column_text]Ste. Anne&#8217;s Hospital is now the only hospital that can be used in the entire region, with approximately 1,500 patients per year. It covers a population of more than 70,000 people, which is why our teams are urgently working to meet the facility&#8217;s energy needs.<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<strong><em>Retrospective<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>2015: Electriciens sans fronti\u00e8res was asked for assistance to electrify the public hospital Sainte-Anne de Mananjary.<\/p>\n<p>The objective was to improve both the working conditions of the nursing staff and the conditions of care of the patients.<\/p>\n<p>We responded to these needs by providing a mixed source of photovoltaic energy and generators, as well as by setting up an electrical network and a water distribution network in case of fire.
