The war continues, and so do the needs of the refugee populations: 17.7 million people are now declared in need (OCHA, Situation Report Ukraine &#8211; 19 December 2022) <\/em><\/p>\n<p>Russian fighting and shelling have intensified in eastern and southern Ukraine, with regular attacks across the country, particularly targeting critical power system infrastructure components, namely power stations and electrical substations. <strong>These attacks leave millions of people without electricity, disrupting water supplies and heating systems, while temperatures are dropping below zero in most parts of the country.<\/strong> In December 2022 the authorities set up a system of emergency power cuts in 10 of the 24 oblasts and, in Kyiv, 40% of the capital was plunged into darkness.<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, December 13, during his participation in the international conference \u201cSolidarity of the Ukrainian people\u201d organized in Paris and co-chaired with Emmanuel Macron, Volodymyr Zelensky set the tone thus:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong><em>We must defeat the energy terror sown by Russia. Generators have become as necessary as armoured vehicles and body armour.<br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>The conflict continues to generate considerable needs in terms of access to medical care (14.5 million people need health care) and also increases the needs of the population, particularly during the winter period. <\/strong>Electriciens sans fronti\u00e8res\u2019 actions aim to support more than 300 collective centres (health centres, reception centres, schools, etc.) to meet the needs of displaced families located in several oblasts affected by the Russian bombardments. ESF is working hand in hand with local partners to provide equipment to meet the basic electrical needs of displaced populations.[\/vc_column_text][vc_custom_heading text=&#8221;SUPPORT OUR ACTIVITIES AND ACT NOW FOR THE WELL-BEING OF THE UKRAINIAN POPULATION&#8221; use_theme_fonts=&#8221;yes&#8221;][vc_column_text]<strong>Thanks to your donations and your support, several convoys of equipment have been, or are being, sent<\/strong> since December and January for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cam-z.org\/en\">Medical Aid Committee<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/fortechnyi.com\/en\"><strong>Charity Foundation Fortechnyi<\/strong><\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/aicm.eu\/fr\"><strong>AICM Fondation<\/strong><\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/NadiiaUkraini\/\">Nadiia Ukraini<\/a> association, the local administrations of Chernihiv and Kharkiv to the centres of several oblasts affected by the Russian attacks. These shipments consisted of:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>200 kits consisting of 3 kVA generators, electrical cable, air heaters, extension leads, hotplates as well as warm clothes and equipment (hats, sleeping bags, fleece blankets, etc.)<\/li>\n<li>4,000 solar lights<\/li>\n<li>3,000 convector heaters<\/li>\n<li>More than 100 generators of different powers (between 6 and 500 kVA) with electrical cable (2.5 km), reels and extension leads<\/li>\n<li>220 space heaters<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;34695&#8243;][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;34699&#8243;][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_custom_heading text=&#8221;OUR PARTNERS&#8221;][vc_column_text]Since the start of the conflict, with the help of the Crisis and Support Center (<em>Centre de crise et de soutien (CDCS)<\/em> of the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Electriciens sans fronti\u00e8res has been working with humanitarian partners in France and Ukraine to intervene effectively and organize actions meeting the needs of the people.
